The Vijayanagara Empire was defeated by a coalition of Muslim sultanates in 1565, and the city was pillaged and destroyed. Today, Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features over 1,600 surviving remains of the empire, including temples, palaces, forts, and other structures.

Badami is a small town in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, India. It's known for its rock-cut cave temples, structural temples, red sandstone cliffs, and cultural heritage. Badami was the capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540–757 and was once known as Vātāpi. The town is located in a ravine at the foot of a red sandstone outcrop that surrounds Agastya lake.
